There have been numerous posts on the forum regarding Oxalic Acid and its cleaning properties on Teak and GRP, the only apparent problem being finding a supplier. I have just come across this web site:

http://www.richardbarry.co.uk/store/default.asp?guID=8266&cID=97

if you scroll down to the bottom of the list you'll see the supply Oxalic Acid in crystal form in various quantities (plus loads of other wood care stuff). I haven't ordered from them (yet) but hope that this may be of some use to others on the forum.

I'll let you know if I have any problems with my order!

Alternatively....walk into your local Boots and order 1/2Kg for a fiver and pick it up the next day.

Well referring back to tcm's famous thread on teak cleaning, renovation and general care, go to Wessex Chemicals, next day delivery not expensive and will be trying the teak cleaner this weekend. Bought the Oxalic as a side order, but postage for the lot was reasonable.

Careful - It's VERY toxic.

On the Richter scale of toxicity I would say that you should take some care when using it.
Data Sheet Oxalic Acid

So if you don't drink it,wear Marigolds and dont splash it about too much you should survive using it.

Compare with Acetic acid Data sheet for Acetic acid(AKA Vinegar).

Generally speaking if you can source a chemical in this country from a reputable supplier,ie Boots or Wessex Chemicals and read the label or data sheet which will be supplied, and follow guide lines you won't come to much harm.

OK, so not as difficult to come by as I thought!! I'll try to keep up next time!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks for your input

Interesting?I have been using oxalic acid for over 20 years with no nasty effects IN MY OWN VIEW ! of course.

Acetic acid -- vinegar i think. oxalic acid rhubarb i think! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
