Hi guys. So, I did some crewing about 25 years ago and since then done RYA dinghy 1 & 2. Bought a sailing cruiser - 25ft - 1973. Taken her out a few times in sheltered water and conditions but realised I just don't know enough. Formal courses just don't fit in with my work/life balance, so I was wondering if there are any instructors or experienced sailors out there who ould be willing to give me and a mate some instruction on my own boat? Don't mind paying for anybody formally qualified (if I can afford it!) but also wouldn't mind swapping free use of boat for instruction. Boat based in Cardiff Bay. send me a private message. Cheers, Tony

Hi Tony

We bought a boat last year and realised that it would be a good idea to get some tuition. i search the internet for "Own boat" tuition and found a guy called Sticky. Strange name but there you go. He does "own boat" tuition aimed at the short handed sailor. We (my wife and son) started our course in Southsea, sailing about the solent doing MOB, mooring undersail and motor and other skills before setting for home. (Ipswich) Sticky stayed on board for the trip and this allowed my son to get his Competant crew and myself and wife our Day Skipper practical.
Hard work up at 7am with sticky asking questions at breakfast and dinner, even the occasional evening passage planning. We did get a drink ashore one night though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This might be for you, i learnt loads and felt so much more confident when i arrived at Ipswich. Sticky travelled to use and his fee i thought was not bad for all three for the seven days tuition.

Good luck /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
