Further to my earlier post today about the Algarve, has anyone over-wintered in Lisbon? If so, how different (or similar) is the weather to the Algarve? In particular, Marina Parque das Nacoes 15 miles up river looks very sheltered (behind lock gates), is quiet but within walking distance of a huge shopping mall & supermarket, allows working on own boat when out of the water (travel hoist on site) and is reasonably priced.

We are regular visitors by land to Lisbon in winter, having family there. Last winter was extreme over much of Portugal, we had 85kt gusts one night on the Algarve but, a relative also had trees uprooted and barn roofs blown away at Tomar, which is inland and north of Lisbon. The previous winter, we only saw 54kts on the mooring at Faro.

The Algarve weather tends to be a bit warmer than Lisbon and I wouldn't worry about potential high winds if you're going to be on board to look after lines. If you're not going to be there then avoid Portimao and Vila Real, they're the most exposed. Algarve is also much cheaper for flights if you're looking at going home at times.
