our bnoat is in southern france, but there are places where you can take yachtmaster exams. Has anyone done this? It threatens all sorts of tidal calculatiuons which um would be a bit irrelevant or very easy. Mind you a channel crossing would be a bit of a grind...

Would think for raggie master. You would have to be able to sail most any place, so need to know about tides. Cant get away with that one! Stick to the CIS whatsit. It's a lot less bother.

If you did your yotmaster in SofF it would be endorsed "non tidal", which is a bit like having "automatic only" on your drive licence. That is, perfickly ok, and indeed why drive anything/anywhere else, but no kudos and a bit woosey down the pub. So, gotta get a tidal one. The only warm place you can do tidal is Canaries. Sunsail do it there, but only sail I think. Not sure if anyone does motor. Else solent or Plymouth I'm afraid.....
