Got to pop down to Poole next week and am considering stopping overnight as it's a 500 mile round trip from Suffolk.

Any recommendations for a nice place to stay for a budget conscious couple (£120 tops)?

There's always the Premier Inn but would be nice for something a little more characterful.

As an aside, quite fancy the Sakuna Khrua Thai restaurant for supper. Trip Advisor seems positive anybody been?

TIA

Hotel du Vin. Right in the middle of old Poole and in budget. Car parking on the Quay. Can't help on the restaurant.

How about the RNLI college?

Hotel du Vin and if you don't want to eat in the hotel (they do fabulous food) you can't go past Guildhall Tavern (french) very close to du Vin too

Not exactly Thai - Guild hall is excellent if you want French fine dining and Hotel Du Vin is traditional English hotel fare - i.e. English menu but written in French. There's two Thai I know of in Poole - the Siam Thai is up by the Civic roundabout so a taxi ride away. Haven't been there for a while but not heard much good or bad about it. There's also a Thai restaurant on the High Street about 2 or 3 minutes walk from Hotel du Vin at most. I've had a very pleasant evenings there on a couple of occasions but I think that was as much the company as anything else. I've always had Tapas there but the a La Carte does look and smell excellent. I keep meaning to go there for a proper meal. That would be my recommend or the Guildhall as mentioned for "fine dining" (again only 2 or 3 minutes from Hotel du Vin). There's also Italian Gossip on the Quay - food is good Italian but the place has great views of the Quay and has been buzzing every time I've been there. Definitely the best in Poole if you want a lively atmosphere.

As a long shot I've had nice meals and good company at the little cabin/restaurant at Parkstone Bay Marina a couple of times - haven't been there this year though.

Thanks very much - good info.

There's the Kho Thai tapas bar in Lilliput just outside Salterns Marina on the way to Sandbanks, its probably about a 10- 15 minute drive from the
Quay but can recommend it for its food and service. There's an Italian in a small complex overlooking Poole Quay Marina, I've forgotten the name but also very good if you want to go foreign. Quite a lot of choice in Poole really and all fairly close by. When are you going? There's a few of us on here based in Poole...
