Hi (I've posted this on here as well as Scuttlebutt because I know mobos from up river visit Hull)

Just in case anyone is thinking about visiting Hull marina between now and the end of March 2012--------

""Would all Hull Marina customers please be aware that during the period 1st October 2011 to 31st March 2012, any penning activity between the hours of 2000 and 0600 will need to be booked with the duty lock keeper at least 24 hours prior to the overnight period of which you wish to pen. The booking can be made in person or by calling the Lock Keeper on: 07789178501, Channel 80 or during office working hours on: 01482 609960.

Cancellations will be accepted at any time up to 1600 prior to the overnight period for which the booking was made. Cancellations made after this time may be subject to a £25 charge unless the cancellation was due to severe weather conditions.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact the Hull office on: 01482 609960.""

I know of a number of berth holders who are not happy with this and wonder if this sort of scheme is used at other locked marinas?

There is a security guard on duty but he is not allowed to use the lock gates!!!!

Interesting, thanks for posting.

Clearly a money saving (i.e. cut) exercise for BW, who need to scratch out every penny they can.

Not sure how it fits with the "safe haven" principle though. What if a vessel passing through the humber at night develops a problem and needs sanctuary? Suppose it has to call up Humber rescue or the RNLI as the only option.

Not really many other choices - South Ferriby? Need to book in too. Grimsby, Goole and Keadby all a considerable distance in those circumstances, and Keadby is already a "book 24hrs earlier" destination.

I found out about this the other day by accident.
Dropped the car off at Hull as we are visiting for a week or two, and while getting a permit were asked if we had booked as the tide would be after the new locking hours!

A better option would be to charge £25 to lock in and out, if you have not booked in advance?

Oh well we got in without any hassle ;)

The security guard cannot also take any bookings either, so the 24 hour notice rule is also compromised.

Anyway, it's all academic in the new year as the lock will be closed for up to 8 weeks anyway..

Limehouse are similar, 24hrs notice for anytime after 4pm this time of year.

Like Hull, also run by BWML.

There is a waiting pontoon at Hull (drys), or Victoria pier owned by the council just outside, doesn't dry.

Or go up the river Hull.

Back in full 24 hour working. Just a note on merseys post - the waiting pontoon in the harbour is not useable for at least 4 hours around low water. Due to shelving it is not safe for any boat to sit there.

The Admirals Steps (Victoria Pier) is no longer an option - mooring there is now not allowed.

Also, Hull marina is apparently not nominated as a safe haven.
