30 degrees this afternoon, 24 right now.
A gentle and warm southern breeze, perfect for a last swim a few minutes ago, in 27 degrees water.
Sea bottom (15 feet below) almost as visible as in daylight, courtesy of a full moon. Who needs u/w lights?!?
And the whole bay just for us.
It's a shame that you can neither stop the clock, nor capture these moments in pics or videos...
...but I thought that those of you cruising at a latitude a dozen degrees or so above 39N should enjoy at least the description of these magic Med moments! :D
And maybe also a short clip of how it looked like, just a few hours ago...

02/09/09
Weather report for: Latitude = 50.3580, Longitude = -4.1196 (Plymouth UK)

Winds 6-7 gusting 50knots
Torrential rain (with localised flooding)
Air temp 18 degrees

I’ve gone on holiday, by mistake…

Couldn't open the file, but we've just had two weeks solid of the same weather as you describe in SoF. Every day the same, barely a breath of wind, no clouds, and warm clear water. Only downside was being charged 210 euros for one small sea bream.

210 Euros for ONE?
Down here, I can't imagine a bill with such amount unless with 4 guests!!!
And I'm talking about the best restaurants, serving only fresh fish catched by local fishermen.
Not to mention that we could fix a gorgeous sea bream for 4 of us on the boat, spending 50 Euros maximum for the raw material...

Re.the clip, it was a MP4 file originally, but photobucket automatically compacts it and converts to FLV format.
Which is nowadays pretty standard, anyway. Does it work by clicking the image below?

Yep, the video works OK now, very nice indeed. The fish was priced per 100 grams, and I forgot that they weigh the whole fish, not the fillets. We also walked into the restaurant on spec directly from the port (Port Gallice for jfm's benefit), so didn't realise it was the Restaurant Gastronomique at the Hotel Cap D'Antibes.

In consolation though, this is what we woke up to each morning ...

Mapis, it looks fantastic but I still can't get the video to work. I think we have a too-old version of Flash on the office comoputers. Will try at home tonight. Will reply properly when I've seen the video

Nick, that photo of yr boat off Juan Les Pins is a fantastic picture. You get really nice light around there for pictures, in the evenings. Flopper stoppers not having to work too hard in that shot.

Wow, fantastic pic!
Even better than what can be seen in most brochures.
Well, aside from OBs, which seem to be missing... :D
The bow particularly would have been much better with a couple of them, instead of that thingie - wazzat, a pile of cushions?

Jfm, you're not missing a lot actually.
The clip just shows a completely empty bay at sunset, with dead calm waters.
Coen bros surely will not be scared by myself as a major competitor!

OB's ??

Ordinary Blondes?
Overgrown Boobs?
Outrageous Bitches?

It's two inflatable canoes on the bow, can't be bothered to deflate them each night so I strap them to the bow

Fantastic, MapisM. Save some of that weather for me as I'm back on my boat in a week's time!

Consider it done, I'll ring Zeus to tell him to stay quiet for a while!
Are you thinking to cruise to Sardinia by chance?
I understood you were considering an escape from matricultaxland...

PS for Nick: yep, OB as per jfm explanations.
Even more obligatory in brochures pics, hence my comment... :)

Yes I am considering an escape from matriculation land. I have lodged a bond for the tax due and a lawyor is advising me at present. If it looks like I'm going to be hit with the 50% fine as well, I will leave Majorca as quick as I can and, obviously, Sardinia is the nearest place to go. I have been researching Sardinia a little but it isn't as convenient as Majorca in terms of flight availability
On the other hand I still have my boat up for sale and I feel that I have more chance of selling her in Majorca than Sardinia. I don't know. What do you think? Ferrettis are Italian after all

Really? I'm surprised to hear that there are more choices with UK-Majorca flights.
Both Cagliari and Alghero have very convenient connections with the UK.
Well, so I'm told, anyway: actually I never flew directly from Sardinia to UK.

Re.selling the boat, aside from the fact that at the moment that's not easy anywhere in the planet, I must say that I have no idea of how lively the Spanish market is.
In Italy, though, the best areas are Liguria, Tuscany, or the northern Adriatic (but the latter would be a long way for you, unless you're considering to see the Croatian islands anyway).
In fact, most boaters (also those cruising Sardinian coasts in summertime) are from northern Italy, therefore these areas are much more convenient for them for shopping around.

Definitely. Majorca is a very popular destination for Brits so you can get flights from virtually every airport. We have a choice of many airlines from London airports, for example, BA, Bmi, EasyJet, Monarch, Thomson, Air Berlin. For Sardinia, only EasyJet fly to Olbia and I think only Ryanair to Alghero and, in winter, flights are only one per week
