I need to get from the marina in Benodet to the Brittany ferry terminal in Roscoff on Sunday 7th July. Ferry leaves 15.00 so need to be Roscoff by 14.00 latest.

Any ideas on the best solution. Bus, train or taxi?

The train from Morlaix to Roscoff is not currently running due to damage to one of the bridges. I don't expect it will ever run again.

That is quite a journey as it happens I have done it as part of a journey by car which I think is your only option and will take a couple of hours and cost a bit. If at all possible I would book your taxi in advance.

In the words of the old Irish joke I wouldn't start from there Brest would have been a better option.

Taxi to Quimper

d. Quimper 0805 TGV
a. Rennes 1023

d. Rennes 1129 TGV
a. Morlaix 1250

d.Morlaix 1300 Bus
a Roscoff 1340

Please check this yourself!

Agreed. I’ve done a similar journey (but from L’Orient amongst other places) several times.

I’ve also used a French ‘book a lift in a car’ service where you register and pay a contribution towards fuel. It’s called BlaBlaCar. https://m.blablacar.co.uk/ride-sharing-abroad/fr/ It’s pot luck whether you find someone driving the way you want to go on the day you want to travel etc but despite my scepticism it worked very well.

Thanks for that link. That would be a novel experience, and a chance to brush up one's language skills.

Have used Blabla car a few times with success but your chances of a suitable route available on a Sunday morning are slim. I dropped crew at Benodet two weeks ago and they used Poignard's suggested method.

What I would do.

Go to Europcar in Quimper on Saturday evening and pick up a Europcar. The agency is closed on Sunday.

They can do a one-way rental to Roscoff.

Based on a 24 hour rental 6-7 july, and 150km the cost would be €181.

You would need to deposit the keys in a letterbox on arrival.

good call John thanks as I will be using a route similar to the OP

Going around the world for a shortcut?

You can also get a bus to Quimper.

Sybarite

What would you suggest? Im leaving the boat in Britany no doubt only for a couple of week in September, Where would you suggest as i'll be between Audierne Benodet morbihan areas?

I maintain what I wrote above. It's what I would do.

Going by train via Rennes is a 430km journey with some connections which are fairly tight. Benodet -> Roscoff by road is about 120km or say 1h30 of driving. The more people travelling, the more economical a hire car is and, with Europcar, or the other large firms, you don't have to pay for the return journey. There is a slight premium for rihlit (rent it here, leave it there).

If you can collect the car the previous afternoon the whole operation imho would be more relaxed. Benodet - Quimper - Benodet is about 35km.

As far as other ports are concerned I believe you would still need to pass via Quimper and so Benodet is as good as any - unless you want to use Brest which is closer to Roscoff.

Yes car hire is the way to go.
