OverBoard Tablet Pouch

I occasionally use an ancient IPad with Navionics as a backup: it is protected in an OverBoard pouch. Has any one modified the pouch to allow a 12v. lead to connect to the tablet to extend display time? Am considering drilling a hole through the plastic locking bar from above, missing the pouch, and then hoping the pouch will mould around the lead and seal into the hole. The IPad is too ancient to charge wirelessly.

I wouldn’t expect that to withstand immersion, but it might be ok against rain and spray.

If the pouch isn’t too tight fitting, an alternative would be to seal a power bank inside with the iPad.

You can also get inductive charge receivers with a lightning plug on, designed to be stuck on the back of a phone that doesn’t have the facility built in.

I 'drowned' a phone in a OverBoard waterproof phone cover! Replaced the phone with a IP68 rated one.

I've never used an overboard bag but would it be possible to use bulkhead cable gland through the polyethylene rather than the seal? The type of thing that's used to seal cables into junction boxes. I'll try and find a link I know that RS do them but not sure of the product number.

Now that's a thought! Moreover I have a mount that attaches to the binnacle to take the IPad.and pouch. I reckon I could attach the pouch to the mount with the gland you have suggested, leaving the lightning cable permanently "inside" which would allow me to continue to remove the tablet when required via the undamaged seal at the top. Brilliant! Thanks!

Great, hope it works, if you were local to Oxford you could come & grab a few to try. Not sure that a cable gland sized for the cable diameter would be strong enough to support the weight of a tablet but I'm sure you could work something out.
