Hi,

I am a french sailor planning to sail to Ireland this summer. And I am looking for a place to leave the boat for the winter (end of august 2014 to april 2015).On the sw coast , say beetween Baltimore and Kilrush
I won't be on board, so I prefer to let the boat ashore, not afloat.

My boat is 9 meters long (30 feet); center-board with shallow draught (50 centimeters) and a flat bottom so very easy to put on a craddle.

I contacted boatyards in Baltimore, Valentia and Askeaton + Kilrush Marina.

Someone allready experimented one of those boatyrds?

We left our boat in Kilrush for the winter of 2008/2009. We were in the water but they had plenty of storage ashore. At that time it was very inexpensive to be there. It's a short walk from the marina to a well stocked supermarket and Kilrush has the bars and restaurants you'd expect to find in a small market town. The nearest airport is Shannon which is probably about an hours drive (taxi ride). We used the boat as a base for exploring the west coast of Ireland while we were there getting cheap flights from the UK on Ryanair and then hiring a car for a few days to get to and from the boat and visiting places like the dramatic Cliffs of Mohr.

Kilrush Marina is now under new management which to put it mildly is no harm at all, and the new manager is very amenable, and the rates are reasonable. The boatyard is Askeaton is very good value and quite near Limerick city about 20 kilometres, and is owner run. A nice place.

Thanks for the answers,

Unfortunately, Kilrush marina seems to be expensive now (1500 euros for my boat).
Caherciveen marina or Murphy marine boatyard (valentia) are cheaper (about 900 euros).
Caherciveen has only berthes afloat. So with a boat left unatented for 8 monthes, I prefer not (even if the marina staff is very efficient).
Who knows Murphy marines in Valentia?

I contacted Askeaton boatyard; no answer at the moment. Maybe , the e-mail adress is wrong? Or I ask too early? I willretry in march or april.

I have planned to sail the west coast in 2015 en route to scotland (ambitious programm). So Rosbrin or Baltimore are a little bit too south for me.

Murphys on Valentia is fine, only drawback is that it is a long way from "civilisation", a long way by road to anywhere such as ferry ports or airports.
