OVER EXPENSIVE OVERNIGHT BERTHING

I stayed in the city centre of Ghent last weekend for 4,5 euros, excl electricity and water (add 1 euro). Off course, being member of the VPF assiciation, I got 50% reduction so normal tariff is 9 euro for a boat up to 12 meters.

Not very good value really, especially when you asked for a 43ft mooring and were told to 'shoe horn' into a 44ft space.

Also you were on wall which is noisy below th bar and you can get fag-ends thrown down on your boat! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Guess we'll have to pass the hat around for you next time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Roger ! I dont mind paying a fair price for anything provided I feel it is value for money, when I questioned the cost I was informed that the rate per metre increases @ over 10m. In truth if you can get into Sparkes in anything over 10m, turn it round and moor on the wall you ought to be rewarded with a free berth just for boat handling skills alone.
All joking aside though if you work out the charge pro-rata it comes to £18,980. per year which is a rip off, with the cost of boating increasing at such an alarming rate marina owners should be encouraging people to untie, leave thier berths & go visiting other marinas as apossed to suppressing the market still further.

I will still come round to annoy you all,but I will come by car /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I would not admit to arriving by car, They will now be looking at car parking charges /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I blame the boaties, for going to poxy marinas in the first place, theres usually far nicer places to go, and not standing all in line, like a load of tin soldiers.

I cant recon folks up. They go out and spend uddles of money, making sure the boat has a bog, hot water and shower. Then go to the chuffing marina and argue about the state of the facilities there. You just could not make it up, could you. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

but for those of us who normally reside on a swinging mooring, it is nice to come into a marina, have shorepower for the toaster, hotwater without running the engine, refresh the water tanks and be able to walk ashore for a meal in the evening ....

Mostly, you dont even need an anchor, theres loads of HM mooring all over the place. Some with lectricery as well and quarter the price of a marina. Anyway, with all these posh all singing dancing boats, what the hell do you need lectric for??

I think its Northney Marina....I had the same terrifying experience a few years back when I was looking for an annual berth....Northney wanted £5800 for the year and southsea wanted £3300 per year....guess where I went

Sadly you must have gone past Southsea marina to get to Northney

Spent the night in Conwy marina last week £18 pounds the night including the lecy - great value I thought - they couldn’t do enough for us . Nice to be treated like a valued customer for a change !!
