I've always favoured heftier anchor tackle than the makers' recommendations, on the basis that there will come a wild night in an inadvertently-exposed bay when I am very glad of the extra holding power. One argument I favour is 'the right size of anchor is the heaviest one you can handle on the foredeck'.

That said, one can have too much of a good thing ( sez he with a grin, reaching for the Bowmore ), even in some out-of-the-way places.

So, a 3-ton long keeler hanging on a 35 pounder, or is 22 lbs quite sufficient? Oh, and 40 feet of 10mm chain, then warp.

What does the team think....? ;)

Helpful information on the Jimmy Green website, and recommended anchor sizes from the manufacturer of the anchor - then make your own assessment!

PS 35lbs sounds OTT, but depends on design equally 10mm OTT, 6 would be enough, 8 OK but you don't have much of it, so probably better to go up a size for the weight.
