Outgoing Volvo D3 views

Hi all, not been on here for a good while & not had much boating time either!! I have noticed some negative feedback on the outgoing D3 series engines & am wondering what exactly the problems relate to. I had a pair of 130s fitted to my Carrera back in 2004 & short of a niggling fault with a trim sender & some dirty fuel, they have been excellent engines & have completed nearly 500hours.

I am guessing I will wish I hadnt asked the question, but am interested to hear other peoples views. The faults I have read about all seem to be electrical & not major mechanical failures. I am worried that this may effect any resale value of my boat.

How did your dirty fuel problem manifest itself on the D3's. Reason I ask is a friend has D3's and possibly dirty fuel.

Hi, First symptoms were dirty looking filter bowls, then on a longish run after xmas both engines simultaneously shut down to 'fault mode' and 1900rpm with all alarms sounding (saying engine electrical fault). Would not run after that at WOT. I replaced filters & cleaned out all cr*p from glass bowls & hey presto all cured. A very easy job.
