Can i get an outdrive that you can put up out off the way in a drying mooring situation, can this be powered??to do this.
Where can i get any info on outdrives?
Has anyone got know where i could get a 23ft glass boat from for a project(power).
obvously can,t be more procise at moment as havn,t looked at many boats yet.
Thankyou in advance

As far as I know, all Volvo, Mercruiser and OMC outdrives have power lift, and all three will lift enough for a drying mooring. I have some experience of all three. Enfield oudrives may be either power lift or manual (like a starting handle) and probably will enable drying out, although I don't have any experience of these. Don't know about other types but surely the designer would think about the chances of drying out, and probably incorporate power lift.
Cheers, Dave.

enfields available in two versions, 130 and 130H. the 130 is the one to go for as it can be wound up sideways. the 130H is simmilar but has hydraulic rams, mainly for trim. both are designed to take upto 130 hp, so ok for most small diesels. props are the same as the early Volvo penta, but new props are easily available, as are spares. Lancing marine, and bob knowles plant hava all the bits/info.

good luck,steve.

ahh say what you like.... what's done is done!

Outdrives are not the best solution, for the following reasons:

You should NEVER leave one in the full tilt position for any period as this causes undue strain on, and can cause a "set" in the bellows. Apart from the obvious possible sinking scenario, this causes damage to lower shift cables, gimble bearings & U/Js

Unlike the standard through hull sea cock that you can close off when drying, most O/Ds have the water pick in the lower unit and leaving on a mud berth will often cause dried mud plugs, restricting flow and causing overheat.

Outdrives are an exellent solution to many problems, just not this one.
