Outdrive trim issue

My throttle switch works fine trimming the outdrive down but only works intermittently on the up button. If I click the trailer button the outdrive comes all the way up fine. I've had a brief Google, and it's coming up with various responses with jumper wires and bypassing switches, which I'm struggling to decipher atm!
Before I start removing things does this sound more like a solenoid issue, the actual switch or the limit switch situated on the oudrive itself?
Any suggestions from you knowledable folk would be great 👍
It's a bravo 3 outdrive and the boat is in the water
Thanks. Ben

If you can get to the switch connections , put the leg in the middle then the switch will robbery have three wires with the pos in the middle , then swop top to bottom, then operate which will be opposite if it stutters on the way down the switch is Gino Decampo.

I can probably get to the switch connections if I take the throttle lever assembly apart. Is this tricky to do? I couldn't see any obvious fixings when I was having a play around with it earlier.
This is what mine looks like. Not a great pic I'm afraid.

That's what I was fearing Grubble! So I assume that's the boat out of the water then? I did read your thread and saw you were having similar problems. The trim gauge has stopped working also which made me think it was something to do with the leg switch.
Wasn't planning on hooking her out till later in the year...I wonder of I can make do 😬

Unfortunately in that case it is both the trim limit and the sender that has failed - the wiring usually goes, which is why some people have rerouted new wiring up the back of the boat, rather than through the sterndrive. With the wiring outside the boat it is then trivial to put new ones on, but of course your boat has to be out of the water to do that.

You can certainly make do - the only real problem is in shallow water when you want the leg as high as it can safely go, you will have no idea what that maximum point is. If you never operate in shallow water then it is easy enough to judge the position of the leg by how the boat is handling - you will never trim it too far up when operating at speed.

If the leg trims right down normally and right up with the trailer switch, it might not be the limit switch on the leg. If the up button is intermittent, then it might just be the button itself. This happened to me on my commander 3000, which is the predecessor to your control. A new switch in the control solved the problem. This should be easy to test if you can take the control apart. I did eventually have to replace my sender and trim limit switch as they are prone to failing. I agree with Grubble. If it is both sender and trim switch, you can still get by until the next lift out. Your control is a Quicksilver 4000. A Google will get you everything you need.

I'm on the non tidal thames so the only time I really trim up is when mooring in places where it might be a bit to close for my liking. I know where the safe limit was roughly speaking by eye but that isn't to say I won't accidentally go beyond that.
I'll start with trying to get the switch out from the throttle assembly if that's possible to get at. I don't really want to lift her

If you join the Facebook Mercruiser Sterndrives group, the file section has a load of service manuals. There is a Remote Control service manual which covers your remote and provides guide and illustrations on how to remove the handle to get access to the switch.
