Outdrive \"rattle\"

Just fired up the old tub this afternoon prior to re- launching but unfortunately theres a rattle coming from the top of my outdrive on tickover in neuteral sounds like the UJ to me. after a quick rev it sounds like a bag of spanners as the revs die off. Has anyone had a similar problem before tear it apart?
Its a Volvo DP1 duo prop unit. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem with a 290, quiet while under load but rattly when throttling down. It turned out to be the UJ. Water had gotten in through a faulty gator, once the joint had dried out over the winter the rust set in. Suggest you have a look at your bellows and uj.

best to take the drive off and check the uj
if you have rust in the bellows area it may only be water getting past the gaitor which should be changed every other year any way
also check the drive oil for traces of water (it goes milky)
if you catch it in time you may only need to replace cross pieces and seals

if the joint goes when underload it can cause a lot of expensive trouble
best be sure and if you dont do it now it will only cost more later
