Outdrive question

Will a V/P 290 DP outdrive be able to handle diesel power if I re-engine.

I believe the ratio is 2,30 DPA whatever that means.

If so what would be the max HP or typical type of engine? (eg Perkins etc.)

Dean - I was looking at this myself as I'm thinking of re-engining up. My workshop manual for the outdrive says nothing exact on the subject, but does have details of engines used with the outdrives. The Ford (not Volvo) V8 listed as AQ240A is listed at 170kW and 231hk (should be hp maybe?). The GMC V6 is quoted at 170hp (125kW) - so thats an indication that they are good to those powers anyway.
