I know that this question has been posed before, and I've looked through the relevant previous postings, so this is asked more in hope than anticipation.

I'm about to antifoul the leg (Alpha 1) on my boat. I can't remember what I used last year, except that it was complete rubbish and, consequently, I flung the spray can and its remaining contents into the rubbish skip with great force, a couple of weeks ago.

A precis of previous posts on this subject would appear to run: "Nothing works any more; International Trilux used to be OK but it's now as useless as the rest". In the absence of anything better, I'm nevertheless proposing to use Trilux (which definitely isn't what I used last year, btw), unless anyone has discovered a miracle potion, which really works, since the last flurry of posting on this subject, about 12 months ago.

Has anybody unearthed such a substance?

TIA.

Have been cleaning and anti fouling the boat since thursday and rubbed down the legs. Will be putting a two coat alloy etch pack on, then inter teflon alu paint on top. Will let you know how it stands up. Boat is currently in fresh water.

ooer - why?

i mean, i've slapped on the copper stuff on the trim tabs and they're stainless steel which is more noble than zinc and less noble than copper. Sooo.....what's wrong with whacking the stuffon aluminium which is also less noble that the copper and more noble than the aluminium?

supplementary: could i slap the stuff on the propsghaft? i bet i could, really?

Have used the white Tri-lux for a couple of years and each year the jet wash removed any green gunge and weed without problems. The boat is on tidal mooring but is in water all year.Paint finish does resemble bad ploughed field but does the job.It is a real bugger to get underneath and clean all the difficult bits tho.Everthing have ever seen does warn not to use anti-foul with copper innit or to use steel bristled wire brushes as it leaves traces of metal embedded? in the aluminium.

I think it's probably going to be Trilux. Weed and slime I can deal with, but the big problem last year was barnacles.

Agreed - cleaning off is a nightmare (especially when using wet and dry in freezing winds......). I've always been told that wire brushing is a no-no as well.

I Used the stuff that comes in a spray can the year before last and it was absolutely shite. Last season I used Trilux which worked very well, when the boat was lifted this January the legs only needed rubbing down with a washing up scourer to remove the last of the paint. Have used Trilux again this year.
