What size boat do you have and what model Seagull? Don't dismiss the Seagull out of hand, there are thousands around and are very easy and cheap to service and repair. The larger Seagulls(identified with an exhaust tube of about 3" diameter) will easily push a 20' displacement craft at sea. The smaller Seagulls(an exhaust tube of about 1¾" diameter) are really only suitable for dinghies up to about 14'. BUT if you are only on a sheltered river or lake then the small seagull may suffice.
Be wary of older outboards from ebay as a lot will have problems(which is why they are on ebay.....) You could try a local dealer who will usually give guarantee and take you seagull in part exchange.
