hi folks any advise on clearing the waterways on my 2.5 hp mariner they seem to be all gummed up with salt cheers

Is it salt or is it the products of the salt water corrosion of the internals (do you rinse it out after use?).

Sorry to look on the downside but it may affect the solution offered.

I've got a Mariner 3.3 and you can buy an flushing kit that screws into the outboard (it's basicaly a small, cylindrical adapter on to which you can attach a hose pipe) and allows you to flush it through - I'm sure the 2.5 is the same..

I have the mariner 4 and Tohatsu 9.8

Both use the same flushing adaptor

3 inch piece of thin rubber fuel hose .

Tape wrapped round end so the hose pipe fits it , secured with jubilee clip.

how to use

remove 'wash' screw , screw in fuel pipe , then attach hose pipe, turn tap on and start engine.

I just hold the engine while flushing not attached to anything.

Is this flushing kit easy to use. We have a merc 4 and the dealer advised against - need impact screwdriver to remove and install - horror stories of not being installed with impact driver - working loose => wrecked engine.

Sounds from those here that it is not so much of a big deal?
