My sailing club (large gravel pit) has a couple of Rigflex 360, aka Carrot or Jaffa, and we are looking at fitting a 10 or 15 hp outboards. There is not a lot of room for centre console so we are considering fitting a side mounted single lever control (throttle and gears, with start and stop) but retaining the tiller steering.

Anyone done this, and how well does it work. are there any problems?

If you are buying new or newish take a look at the Mariner and Suzuki models that have the gear change integrated with the twist grip. I've been using one for a year now and can't fault it.
