Anybody got an idea for the storing of an OB aboard a Merry Fisher 805 .The lazarete aboard is pretty spacious but the engine would need to be near horizontal , not the best solution. The alternative I guess is a bracket somehwhere on the transom but is it strong enough to carry the 13Kg and how do I attach the bracket .Is there a bracket out there that could be taken off easily when required so I don’t have the thing hanging over the swim platform empty – any 805’s out there with a bracket attached ?

If it is a 2 stroke engine then the requirement for vertical storage is because the piston could stop at a point where the exhaust port is open so any water in the leg exhaust system can run into the cylinder if it is horizontal or upside down.
So if you can hoist the motor up on its bracket for some time before to drain it before you put it away you will be safer with a near horizontal stow.
4 strokes may have a similar problem but also a risk of oil spillage.

I have stowed my old Johnson 6, 2 stroke in the cabin with the prop only slightly lower than the head for many years without problem.

Around here it is far preferable to stow an o/b out of site locked up than on an external bracket. But then it also depends on how often you use the o/b and how heavy it is/ how strong you feel.
I kept mine inside under the cockpit but then I could go for long periods without using such that I now leave it home.

good luck olewill
