My 9 year old Yamaha F4A is just beginning to show slight signs of incipient corrosion. I would like to nip this in the bud. Is it just a case of rubbing back the affected areas to bare metal and spraying? Do I need to spot prime and if so with what? Thankyou.

Well worth priming unless you use a paint suitable for use directly on to aluminium , galvanising etc

Hammereite Special Metals Primer probably a good choice .... Vyv Cox seems to recommend it.

Alternatively use Hammerite Direct to Galvanised Metal Paint without a primer if you can match the colour, or mix a reasonable match.

Remember though that going out to buy paint for an outboard is not, at present, a valid reason to be going out

Thanks Graham/Vic. As always very helpful.

PS Other than into our garden we haven’t been out for 10 days.

I don't know what others are doing , but I am buying things online where possible to perhaps help the business situation. Not expensive (to me) items though.
