Very occassionally when going from forward through neutral and into reverse the engine stops. Unfortunately I only ever use this sequence when stopping to enter a berth. The tickover is normally totally reliable and is the correct speed both in and out of gear according to the tacho. The gear /speed lever is quite free and goes in and out of gear easily. The remote gear change box is only 6 years old and also has new cables. The engine is a Tohatsu 20hp. Is this problem a known thing with remote control boxes and what to do about it? The gear oil is good with no water contamination.

Could be many things, but I'd start with checking that your idle is fast enough by double checking the accuracy of your tacho. Could also be running just a tad too weak. Also check spark plugs for gap and condition. Check strength of spark if you can.
