Outboard on the rail, drain the petrol or not?

Hi
I keep a seagull on the pushpit rail. I had been in the practice of draining the fuel but it takes ages and caused the cork plug to dry out and stop sealing. I keep a plastic container with 5l of fuel tied on deck. The fuel gets a lot off sunlight and changes colour but seems to work fine. Considering the seagull tank is black surprisingly little evaporates. The boat is in a pretty secure marina.
Does anyone have any concerns about storing petrol like this?
Cheers
Guy

always top the tank after use, cover the engine with a breathable cover ( certainly not a plastic one), stow the fuel can in the anchor well with the Bruce

I worry about the build up of pressure if leaving plastic containers of petrol in the sun ( hopefully you are using proper petrol cans). I usually cover my plastic outboard fuel tank with a white plastic bin liner if I shut the vent.
