Outboard motors 400hp plus all the way to

Is diesel becoming a real option though?

Mercury at 175hp weighing 225kg, Cox at 300hp weighing 300kg and Oxe at 200 weighing a mighty 350kg although it is aimed at commercial. Even Yanmar are doing a 50hp.

I’d go diesel if speccing new for ease of refuelling, petrol risks etc...

Struggling to find prices....can’t be cheap.

The Seven 627 is a beautiful thing. Horizontal crankshaft, various gears and jack shafts to get the power to the prop, ZF gearbox up top so the propeller hub is super slim due to not housing the FNR mechanism. Volvo Penta bought the company about a year ago

In recent times, I never had the opportunity to try any of the latest high power outboards.
But I can't help thinking that none of them can still hold a candle to the glorious 2 stroke 2.5 EFI.
Reaching 3 digits speed in no time, glued to the seat by an unbelievable acceleration, with two of those things screaming right behind the ears, was probably my most memorable (and scary!) boating experience - more years ago than I wish to think about... :ambivalence:
This short video only gives a very rough idea of what I mean.

That sounds amazing

That sounds amazing
You can say that again. But what is even more impressive is the blazingly fast reaction to the throttle.
After releasing upon take off, when you push again the pedal to the metal upon re-entry, going from idle to max rpm happens in the blink of an eye! :encouragement:
