Rather than hijack Jemima's thread, I'll start a related one :)

I've just bought a second hand Mariner 3.5 4 stroke. I took it in for a service and was a bit shocked to find the cost is going to be much the same as I paid for the motor. I'm not entirely incompetent with a spanner, so I think a bit of DIY will be called for next time. A nose around the Internet gave me the owners manual, but nothing on how to do a service.

Is there the equivalent of a Haynes manual available for it?

If it's been running ok, run it in fresh water for half an hour, change the oil, check the plug and change unless it's new, (cheap as chips), drain the carb and tank, put in the shed 'til Easter. Job done!
