Have just purchased a Mercury 50 hp, 4 cylinder outboard for the sailing club rescue boat. This is the blue band model, probably early eighties. With our previous motor, a Yamaha 40 we used unleaded fuel. Do we have to use leaded fuel with the Mercury? Leaded fuel is not that easy to find now and would prefer unleaded.

Most US motors have been using unleaded for years, so I don't think it will be a problem. You might check w/local Mercury dealer to be sure.

In my family, we still have an Evinrude 70 Hp from 92. It worked with leaded fuel. When this fuel disappeared from the market, it appeared a substitutive for it, that is still being sold (at least in Spain).
