'In a recent incident at Llandegfedd reservoir, thieves broke in and removed outboard engines from 13 fishing boats on Monday morning. With padlocks cut and engines unbolted from the boats, the engines were then loaded onto a safety boat, which had been cut from its mooring and hot-wired to start the engine.

It appears the engines were then taken to the dam wall, where they were loaded onto a lorry, fitted with a hoist, as the last engine removed was the 80hp unit from the rescue boat, which could only be lifted using specialised equipment.

In addition to the fishing boat and safety boat engines, two 15hp engines were also stolen from the wheelie boat (wheelchair accessible fishing boat) and a smaller safety boat belonging to one of the external groups who use the reservoir.

Total value of the theft is estimated to be £24,000, which is now having a significant impact on boat fishing and safety provision of site.

Engines stolen were:
• Yamaha 80hp,
• Yamaha 15hp with electric start and power trim
• Mariner 15hp
• 11 qty Honda 2 and 2.3hp short shaft engines (yellow paint added to covers)
• 2 qty Honda 2.3 long shaft engines (yellow paint added to covers).

If anyone becomes aware of engines matching these specifications please contact Richard Poole - Area Lands Manager 01495 769281 richard.poole@dwrcymru.com or Gwent Police.'
