I want to fit one to my Eventide, the stern has quite a sheer and a normal spring loaded one is no good, also i have a transome hung rudder, any ideas anyone?
Mount on tapered wooden "wedges" I think is the answer although I think in the past I have seen them adjustable for such transoms.
With a transom hung rudder as well you have to mount the outboard well to one side although linking the O/B to the rudder can help a bit. That also over comes the fact that you can otherwise only turn tightly in one direction.
I know the Eventide transom is quite small but I did not realise that Eventides had transom hung rudders ... not normal is it?
Later Eventides had transome hung rudders to try to overcome the weather helm they tend to suffer i think,i have tried the wedges approach,it looks very ungainly as the wedges need to be quite substanial, the web site is very helpfull but not for outbrackets as yet.thanks for your help anyway.
I am intigued by the mention of linking the outboard to the rudder. I have a Jaguar 22 with said transom mounted rudder and had been wondering if linking was feasable. Reversing is the trickiest if you are not good at multitasking. Just bought a new Tohatsu 5hp long at the Boat Show and am awaiting delivery so if there is a way of preventing it from "leaving its mark" on my lovely teak rudder it would be great. Any brackets or how to articles would be helpful

[/ QUOTE ] Certainly feasible and I've seen one or two ideas published over the years. Basically you need a bracket fixed to the rudder and another on the o/b with a link between them that can be easily disconnected when you raise the engine. I expect the engine will pivot about a point well aft of the rudder pintles so you'll have to to a bit of thinking out to do and I would think you ll have to accept the engine turning more than the rudder unless you can devise something really clever.
It also means you ll have to drill holes to fix a bracket to your new engine which you may be reluctant to do!
