Out of the water?

Come the end of last season I noticed that a lot of boats came out of the water and have been stored - slowly these seem to be going back in, after upwards of three months on the hard. I understand the need to lift the hulls to allow them to dry out and also the opportunity to check the underside / anti-foul / outdrive service etc.

So next Winter - on a new-ish boat how long should I assume it will be out of the water (I'd prefer the shortest possible period) and what months are the best to take it out - South Coast Solent based?

Many Thanks.

Thoughts to keep you awake - Is the depth alarm on 1.4 or 1.2....

Not as funny.

I much preffered the 'no no come off the plane' to this new signature about depth sounders, will not keep me awake at night as my echo sounder reads bollox anyway.

Mine came out just after new year and is going back in in about 3 weeks time when I get back 2 uk, new plastic type boats, I reckon lift out, scrub, service, anitfowl and back in, 1 week.

It's not really necessary for more than a couple of weeks I dont suppose. Ours was out 2.5 months. They drained all he water systems to avoid freezing damage, if it had been left in I do not know if this wd be a problem, I guess not as we leave a few of the famous greenhouse heaters in all the time, with thermostats. So it really needs to come out just for scrub, antifoul, look over, anodes, that's all. That said, I'm happy it's out because weather too grim in Jan and Feb

Also, even tho you have bort a 12 month berth, they charge you again for hardstanding, based on metres of boat per week!

Some manufacturers offer a long warranty on the hull but have conditions attached.

My own boat (one with a stick) has a 5 year warranty but it's conditional on the boat being out of the water for 8 weeks per year.

Wonder whats going to happen in the four weeks. It's not going to dry out any in four weeks in the middle of winter. Sound like it's just some thing to catch you out on if something goes wrong.

Chichester where Barry is based give you three months free hardstanding, you just have to let them know as soon as they send out the form otherwise all the space is taken. You have to pay for the lift out.

I think at the end of this coming season I'll come out of the water from the beginning of December to end of January. Not being able to use the boat adds to the excitement of the coming season IMHO.
