Has anyone tried to correctly dispose of out of date flares recently??....Its a situation worthy of the best Monty Python sketch...and I still have the flares....

Coincidentally we had an “ask the experts” day at Shotley on Saturday and this subject came up during the HMCG and RNLI sessions, mostly just before the flare demo. I begin to wonder if, with all the other means of alerting the people of any distress if flares are worth the candle (pardon the pun) because of disposal difficulties and cost. I was surprised to learn that in the particular watch area being discussed not one “shout” was as a result of sighting flares. The cost differential between PLBs EPERPS and the ongoing replacement cost and hassle associated with flares has now narrowed to a level where their value can be questioned IMHO.

Yup ...tried that...they told me what they were and that they couldn't accept them....even tried the bomb disposal lot...very informative but no-can-take...coastguard have 'no capacity' as they are supposidly all full up....maybe if I leave them in my Recycle wheelie bin..

Look, it is Bonfire Night in a few days and any 'professional' firework event (Scouts, Round Tablers, etc) will gladly use them in their display as long as it is a few miles in land and not on the coast. ;)
