GC1 was asking to pimp up his boat, and it got me thinking is it pos to have a nitrous oxside feed on to an outboard ? Might be fun on a race back to the moorings after the pub /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

possible - yes

advisable - no

There are some new engines being developed that have either a turbo or a supercharger (cant remember which) but these are really for racing.

The Mercury Verado has a supercharger.... most powerful ob motor produced...

Although Yamah is bringing out a 300hp/4 which is reputed to be even more powerful!

Its amazing as only 10 years ago a 115hp was considered a huge engine...

Nitrous would be interesting tho.

Talk to your local performance car shop and see if they know of a local shop that has applied Nox to a motor bike. They would be the most likely mechanics to have the capability. I seem to recall somebody on these forums that had a bandit 1200 with a nox kit (scary).

Personally the thought of an outboard exploding from nox within a very few feet of people, with only a light fiberglass cover to stop the resultant metal missiles, just a tad "silly"

Nitrous to an outboard is possible and has been done, many years ago we had a 16ft Ring ski boat that did the National Water Ski racing championships that ran an 85 Yamaha that was nitrous injected, went extremely well, it was mainly used for acceleration to overtake, it was so successful the BWSF banned it, some years later a good friend of mine turbo charged a 150 Merc again for Ski racing, again the BWSF banned it.

Must be possible. Souped up jetbikes have it. I'd say it is very advisable, should be great fun, good luck. You might need to use it in short bursts only though...

What model/make of o/b you have in mind?
