We had found a nice inn on the way so decided to head there for the next night and have a meal out. The was a 24 hour mooring opposite and free elec and water..
A very good meal but expensive, the place is in the middle of nowhere but was packed on a Sunday night, we had booked by phone so OK.
View from the window on the way down.
The next day we travelled back up to the Nieuwpoort lock complex and had to wait for the tide to be able to pass though to the Veurnes canal, By this time we were not going to be able to make Veurnes in time for the last bridge so stopped at a place called Wulpen. There is nothing there except a bridge and some very nice and new moorings.
We had be given a card to operate the bridge.
The next morning we headed to Veurnes
Interesting old town with a good butchers.
Onwards into France
Boring canal couple of bridges and locks into the docks at Dunkirk. Checked by the VNF at the first bridge and told to buy our pass when we get to Dunkirk.
Last lock to the holiday, designed for container ships but run just for us.
Motored round to the YC marina paid €148 to have the mast lifted ( €35 in calais ) felt ripped off but no other way. Went to the VNF office and was told no fee required as we only used the canal for transit not pleasure, they signed out bit of paper and we legged it.
Friday left in the afternoon for a windless motor sail back to Calais and followed the ferry in.
Had to wait for the tide until 10pm but still light when we tied up in our berth.
All in all a very good time with no problems,
