Cruise Reports Our season ending cruise (vid)

Thank you Phil!

To my great disappointment, the Mavic chose not to co-operate after the first shots. I was looking forward to using it on the narrow inlet at the end of the vid, but the application wouldn't connect with the remote.

Quick googling suggested that it has to be sent to DJI for a repair :(

...the weather forecast was so ugly yesterday that I decided to skip the weekend cruise and bring the boat straigh away to Inkoo. The forecast showed temperatures down to -10C at night, 20 m/s northern wind gusts and 10 cm of snow. The crew said no and there is also a risk of ice formation around my dock :-(.

Jep, looks a bit grim, a wise choice for sure.

Once you have the boat safely indoors, It's nice to just sit back and enjoy the autumn storms and start planning for the next year... :)

At least it didn't do for a swim!!

Have you tried connecting the Mavic and the Remote (independently) to a PC running "DJI Assistant" ?
Not saying that it doesn't need to go back to DJI but once I had some weird connection issues that all went away after a firmware upgrade with the DJI Assistant.

BTW - my Mavic went swimming due to a system failure - the nut that controls the joysticks!!

K. are you an agent of the finnish tourism agency?! You have artistic skills!

Finland has really amazing cruising grounds, such a shame that the boating season is so short! Love also the "little challenge" to nicely negociate the channel entrance at 1:47. What margin error does one have at this place?

Thanks, M, for the good tip! I haven't yet had time to properly investigate, but that will be my starting point.

Thank you again, Gents, for the kind words :encouragement:!

@Hardmy: the channel wasn't as bad as it might have looked. The banks steepen pretty quickly and where the reeds end, there's enough water for the boat. So, avoid the reed and you'll be fine.

You are right, the season is way too short... And it would be nice if it was a bit warmer, but there you go...

Very nice video, great edits. Timeless beauty also, your Phantom 43.
Are there any boaters in your area that keep their boat in the water during winter, steel boats perhaps?

Thank you! There are some steel boats that stay in the water and some (though very few) are actively used and lived on throughout the winter. Friends of ours as an example, last year they spent the New Year at sea enjoying the fireworks.

Some are better equipped for the winter with water circulating under floor heating, etc. but the ice and low temps can make it a harsh environment.

Just seen this.

I was thinking, " Hey mister, you've left your camera on the dock." Then I remembered the drone. A good idea.

I also liked that narrow river running up to the small dock. Reminded me a little bit of walking around Bucklers Hard towards Beaulieu here in the UK.

As always a top production. You're getting handy with the editing software

LOL, if you are referring to the part at around 0:38, then I did. I left the camera on a gorilla pod and then reversed to the end of the pontoon so SWMBO could pick it up :).

It's nice to try new things and see how they turn out. Trouble for me is that being so immersed with editing I find it very hard to spot the silly things from the end result. Only after some time has passed I'm able to look back and better see what works and what not. Another thing is that as you only do it occasionally, you never really get on top of it and feel like you just treading water.

............... you never really get on top of it and feel like you just treading water.

They say you are your own harshest critic....:)

Great work again SM, always a pleasure to view the Finnish lifestyle/scenery through your camera lense, and the fact you don't need temperatures greater than 30 deg. C to enjoy your boating experience.

From what I have observed over the years, you certainly make the most of your "short" boating season, in terms of days at sea, perhaps more so than folks living in warmer climates, where they become too selective concerning suitable weather opportunities?

Thanks AM :)! There is a lot of truth in that. With weather being what it is, it doesn't really become a part of the planning. This year again we used the boat quite a bit with around 70 - 80 nights on board.

Still, I wouldn't mind having a couple of those 30 degree days as well... :).
