We'd planned to move our "new" boat from the Medway to her new berth on the Crouch so spent Saturday at Medway Bridge tinkering in the glorious sunshine, watching the paddle steamer chuffing past on the completely smooth river.
Early start on Sunday, and after Saturdays weather we were a little dissapointed....o/cast but no calm.
Trundled up the Medway, all ok except the mist getting worse all the time, out past the Medway bouy and by now the radar and new Standard Horizon plotter were earning their keep. Out across the Thames estuary at a steady 16knts, all T&P's as they should be, viz now down to a mile according the radar (EEK!) A few big commercials loomed out of the mist but no problems.
Thankfully plotter, compass and route plan kept us heading in the right direction.
A few yatchs on a similar track to us, and a couple of MOBO's at W.Swin who needed to read the col reg's again (who's the give way vessel?) but otherwise evertything went as planned!

Eventually turned for home at the S Whittaker bouy and cruised up the Crouch, accompanied by various fishing boats and yatchs. The sun came out through the mist, so went up top for the last section of our first trip.
Into Fambridge, located new berth and didn't embarrass myself to much whilst backing in. Thanks to the new neighbours who grabed the lines for us.

Sorry there's no piccy's, was to busy tyring not to get lost in the gloom! Maybe next time. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Mission accomplished, well done. When I started MOBO 3 years ago I used to stick to my guns when I had the right of passage. Mellowed a bit since then and if in doubt I give way -not least because most other stuff is usually bigger than me !

Lifes to short to get into arguments about who's got right of way.....especially when it's a bit of a swim to shore!!
Only a teeny weeny deviation needed to go round the back of them, and as we were about 15ft bigger than them , i think they got the idea for next time.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We had to do the same for quite a few yachts in the solent this weekend. All studiously ignoring the impending close-quarters situation, whilst making 6knots in 3knots of wind under just the main and the telltale spurt from the exhaust (ie. the infamous 'solent rig'). Its convenient that they forget the bit about being power boats when using the engine for propulsion - but as you say, lifes too short /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
