Had a terrific long weekend based at Hythe and ventured further and further out as our confidence grew. Having said that we did get stuck with a caught line and ended up almost hanging from the lock (not cool but everyone was very understanding....). We also saw MarkC out there on Saturday which was good and the children had a good time and particularly enjoyed pottering around the marina in the dinghy and flying over wash and the odd solent wave (aboard Cast Off).

Today was excellent as we completed our dayskipper practical under the ever watchful and patient eye of Phil (Sun Coast) Cool which was without doubt our best day yet. Phil even managed to get us to visit Newton Creek, Yarmouth, Cowes and the Hamble pump out station.....the later was a real treat. The Solent was still and quiet and the boat went really well. Most importantly we were able to use so much of what we had already learnt to good effect and were able to go through some basics such as man over board, anchoring techniques and mooring to a buoy. We now feel far more able to tackle the Solent with safety and confidence than we would have imagined from being Thames based all of ten days ago....

After our tuition we both feel inspired to read up and practice what we have already learnt and of course increase our real sea experience.

Thanks again Phil and do have a look at todays pictures

Nick

I think your boat was designed for Left handed people. The helm is on the port side and the throttles on the left side on the flybridge. Our Phantom 37 has everything on the right side (not implying yours is wrong!!) but we have the same hull e.t.c as you.

Good point Moose - perhaps that explains my boat handling!

<font color=blue>Don't blame the position of your throttles for your boat handling, blame the bottle in your hand /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
