Ought I buy a boat?

launching is the orgasm
Looks like I've been missing out on this angle of boating. Does this mean that my new sailing plan of dry sailing from the trailer will be like multiple orgasms?
Will I suffer from premature launching?
Who will sit on the wet patch, post-launching?

Just be sure not to have a premature orgasm Lakey, the boat might fall off the trailer in the wrong place.....

We live about three hours drive from our boat. I am at my happiest on the boat, I love everything about being on her, I love the sea, the fresh air and I love sailing. When the engine is switched off and you get the wooosh of the wind in the sails, I sigh and feel happy. I sleep better on the boat than at home. I love setting out early in the morning with hot sausage cobs to warm you up. I love the journey. I love arriving at our destination and sitting with a G & T on deck watching the sunset. I love seeing the sunrise. I love sitting on the boat in the winter with the heating going and a curry on the go. I love the summer sitting with my legs dangling in the water to keep cool. I love sitting on deck in the summer and being able to eat outside. Go on, get another boat, you know you want to.:):):)

Doesn't that basically just some it up completely - Although Bacon and Egg with brown sauce beats just sausage!!!!

Yeah, you have a point, we have that when if we don't have an early start, but if it's very early I cook the sausages the night before then warm up the sausage cobs in the oven.

Mogy my son, you have my full permission to buy a boat. You can turn round in a year and either thank the forum or quietly sell it again and thank the forum, either way it is awin win. I am sure your family will be happy if Dad is happy fettling and enthusiastic..

May I suggest that you invest in something that is easy to sell again, and that it is a really good trailer sailer designed exactly for people in your dilemma?

British Hunters come to mind, as do Cornish Shrimpers though they represent more capital tied up, but that can be offset by keeping it at home, then you can fettle away, not mess with antifouling or distant gale warnings, and sail any goddamn where you want, 3 hours drive must cover an awful lot of water..

Get an auto, diesel Toyota or Nissan or Mitsubishi 4=4 and Bob's your happy salty uncle..

In fact it is possible that you 'might' make a bit of a profit by bringing in a good, quality trailer sailer to Spain from Britain when you eventually sell..

Good luck..

Budget permitting, I would not go for a trailer sailer if you live three hours from the boat. We tried that, and although we had some fun on her, we really needed a vessel that would provide good weekend accommodation.

The trouble is, three hours is really half your day gone in travelling. We now go down on a Friday evening, take a curry or something and often go out that evening and pick up a mooring close to the sea. Then we're all ready for the weekend's sailing. As we have a comfortable bunk and an oven with two burners we're happy as anything for the whole weekend.

You've finally made it to a point in your life where you feel ready to buy your boat. Should you buy a new boat or a used boat, powerboat or sailboat? Do you need a boat with a cabin, galley or head? Is it better to get an inboard or outboard motor? How big of a boat should you buy?
It's all certainly depends on your budget.

Go to the London Boat show ! Then after that you will probably buy a boat!

Don't bother, unless it is merely for info. especially if you are not flush. There's plenty of small - sub 7 metres - seaworthy boats on the market for very little money - I'm with Dylan W & Lakesailor on this. I paid fewer hundreds, than most in the club, paid thousands - I still get out.
