Just a quickie..

Any ideas how to fix THIS.

Naturally I would like to do the repair without a) spending any money, b) damaging anything else, c) any specialist tools.

Cheers gang!

PS I didn't do it, it was like that when we bought her, and the surveyor said that there is no real damage to the boat underneath.

The only long-term answer would be to replace the whole toe-rail - more of a botch would be to scarf in a new piece.

I've found that alloy toe-rail is almost impossible to straighten cold, it just fractures if you try and straighten it.

I'd still be concerned about the deck-hull joint under there, probably no severe delamination but I'd be concerned about leaks.

TrySteve Lawrence @ S.L.Yacht Fittings @ Chichester. does a nice line in Toe Rails.. Is it GRP?.... Cos if it is you'll probably have to do a bit of laminating on the inside...TW

Thanks for that, I've just had a cheeky thought.
Why don't i get a fairlead put in place of the dent. I'm having a new stemhead fitting made this winter, so I could either have some kind of monster extended fitting, or see if i can get a match on an "in rail" fairlead....

Good Idea or what?

Replacing the whole rail is always an option, and as it only goes stem to shrouds, i have had a quote of £800 fitted. Problem is, with all the other jobs on, I dont have another £800!!!

Right .. get a friendly insured sun***l boat to ram you. I'm sure we can get 6 forumites to pay £50 for a days charter ... at the end we ram you. You get it sorted free (or a new boat) and we have a bit of fun .. what do you think?

Gee, thanks Jim!

So, lets get this straight, you actually want to ram Neraida with a "s*****l" vessel? By all means charter one and scratch the bow, but I'm not chuffed at the idea of a SunFast 38 vs First Class 8. Are you that confident in your accuracy that you could hit the same place?

Anyway, I thought you only did offshore catastrophes now??

Been through a speed camera or two? Or simply worried they might have seen you parked outside that Bank?

I've got this scheme ... find someone you do'nt like .. buy a car for them, register it in their name at the DVLC and drive it through all the speed cameras you can find. Then park it outside their house and stroll casually away whistling Annie Laurie .. good scheme or what! Do'nt know how I'd handle the insurance though .. maybe the Irishman could advise?
