Had the big one on my shed roof in the garden near to the pond....even frightened the herons away!!!

Never worked in Mayflower Marina, Plymouth on the boat though

Judging by the seagull poo on top of the one on the boat next to my mooring, no. I've seen gulls sitting alongside it most times I'm on the river.

We think that ours does some good. Significantly less seagull crap since we took to displaying it.

The only thing that seems to work on Jissel is a thin line stretched about 4" above any likely perches.

If you're feeling kind, make it thick enough to be visible on final approach. If not, make it strong...

We had those on the roof at work. After a month the seaguls were getting "fiendly" /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif with them. Even saw of the seagulls with its wing round it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Try mousetraps. Seriously.

I lost patience with pigeons trying to roost on my balcony and (much to the horror of the womenfolk here) put a couplr of mousetraps down. Effect: no more pigeons! They stay clear. But how could they possibly know? They're still out there, months later, untriggered...

Weird.

Never noticed. It's not something I watch. I just post when I feel like it.
I suppose it is a milestone, but perhaps not one to celebrate!!

We got our "owl" free, so was worth a try. We leave it attached to the lazy jacks above the boom, so it moves a little which may help. I think it makes a difference.

Run a length of 6mm line from the mast to the topping lift about 4 to 6" above the boom - saves most of the mess!

We actually did that at the same time, so it could be that which made the biggest difference.

However we also used to get a lot of gull crap and bits of crab all over the deck, cockpit and coachroof. I would be surprised if the line above the boom deterred gulls from landing there or using those parts of the boat as dining room and toilet.

When we were aboard last year I actually watched a gull catching a large crab, then flying with it directly to our boat. At the last moment he noticed me aboard and diverted sharply towards a nearby RIB.

Think seagulls are bad try a seal sitting in my wayfarers cover eating his lunch and leaving behing a real smelly mess. Mind you the little sod would occasionally capsize the boat to clean it out so suppose I cannot complain.
