I'm trying to find the name / webside of a marina in Ostia, or any another marina near Rome. Also, what are the chances of leasing a comfortable liveaboard boat for a month or longer off season. I wouldn't leave the dock. I am a U.S. sailor and future expat looking for a creative alternative to a hotel or small apartment while searching for a more permanent land-based place to live near Rome. Does this sound do-able, or is it totally off the wall?

Porto di Roma is the one. Don't try up the river because it's lonely and not so safe. Great livaboard community and when we were there a couple of winters back there was someone living on someone elses boat so yes, possible!. You need to be there to sort it though because it's not the sort of thing that the marina office would be interested in.
Although an hour to get into Rome it only costs €1
best of luck
