The problem of fuel in Ostende needs updating. I was there on the 5/7/10, there is a petrol station behind the Royal Ostende Yacht Club. I don't know if this is new but it's definitely there.
Thanks to everyone who helped with my 1st journey to Ostende, my 1st in the North Sea too!
Regards

I didn't think it looked brand new. I thought it a good idea to clear up the matter as the general consensus on the ostende thread is that there is no fuel there.

We took extra container of fuel on our recent trip only to find fuel readily available.

On a quick note the Royal Ostende Yacht Club, will pull your boat out of the water for 25 euro's for the day, you can also hire a jet wash for 10 euros, which looks like a pretty good deal to me.

Spectacular deal.

Pleased that you found a fuel outlet, thanks for the heads up.

Last time I enquired, there was a size/tonnage limit - IIRC 38' and 7.5T
Is that still the case?

We usually dry out on the RNSYC grid in Ostend. Cost negotiable ;)

There probably is a length and weight limit, by the size of their trolley, you're figures look about right.

Guapa's about 44ft isn't she?

I enjoyed ready your blog, seems like you've been through the mill and come out the other side!

Good luck sailing this year.

Thanks Tony,
It was a little hairy going over, it started off well, very little wind up to Long Sand Head. When we rounded the sand the wind just built and built, we ended up in a F6 in rough sea's for 15 hours.
I had 2 very good crew members with me, both named John, so they became Navman & Helm, they were fantastic!
The trip to Ostended took a total of 19 hours! but at the end of it we sailed up to RYCO and right into a berth at the bottom of the gangway and a well deserved sleep.

We came back the long way, After a day to recover in Ostende and Brugge (In Brugge!), we then sailed to Dunkirk, which is about 26 miles, the next day we sailed across to Ramsgate, which took 8hrs to do 40 miles. A mixture of sailing and motor sailing, the shipping lanes are a lot easier in daylight!
The next day we sailed back to Bradwell again without incident, we arrived about 10pm after crossing the Spitway at about hightide.
Finally on Friday we sailed back on the tide to Millbeach a total of about 210 miles in 5 days, it was great fun, a real trip to remember.
Happy sailing
Mik

Well done,also nice post.
Noticed your tender on your mooring, John in the club said you were off to Ostende.
Nice to see some people from our club making it out of the river.
Might try myself next year, but still want to see wats on own door step first.
Went pirate weekend the week you were away, first time up Walton backwaters and a very nice trip it was.
I take it your dad did not go?
Once again well done, and all got home safe.
Nice to see your dogers are now on :D:D:D

Dad was with me when we sailed down to Bradwell, the Friday before we left for Ostende, it seemed a better starting place, easier to load and fuel the boat.
It would have been a little too rough for him, he likes to stay coastal.

You're right though, there's still so much to see locally, I havent sailed to the Walton backwaters, the Orwell or River Deben and plan to over the summer if possible.

The dodgers and spray hood went on in Ostende, the spray hood had just been repaired, i don't think they would have saved us from the soaking on the way over though, the waves were over 3 meters and breaking.
I can't sail well with the spray hood, it just blocks your view!

I'm really pleased with how well Silver Ann did though, she handled everything thrown at her and for a 26' bilge keeler, i think thats pretty good going.

Did the pirate weekend go well?
I would have gone too if the Ostende trip wasn't already planned.

How does Fantasy sail? she looks like she should sail well.

Bet your pleased your dad never sold Silver ann now..
Yes well pleased with Fantasy, sails like a dream, no comparison with the Jaguar 22ft i had.
Had nice time at Walton, left on high tide at 5 am, found it no prob and will def go back this summer, so much deep water to explore :D
Left Walton at 8am, only blowing 13 knots, got passed Naze pier wind blew up right on our nose gusting 25knot, and 4ft swell right on our nose.
Any way reffed in geney and ploughed on, had to moter sail from Clacton to punch us home.
My mate Nick (who is a non sailer ) was as good as gold, no fear or nerves from him,i think i woried for both of us.
Got back safe and sound at 6ish.
Same as you this summer going to do Stour,Orwell, Deben, and also go down the Crouch.
Have 3 week hols in August so im off on a wander round coast (with out the wife :D )
Hope to catch you on our travels:):).

An easy ride on the tram though :D

Was in Ostend yesterday.
The one by RYCO has indeed been tarmaced over - there is a 'new' one about 600m down the road towards town.

There is a garage behind RYCO

This needs to be settled once and for all!!

I was there just over a week ago and behind the RYCO building, across the road, there is a petrol station, which has petrol, diesel and even 2 stroke fuel.
The RYCO is a great little club, the visiter berths are right in front of the ramp and although it is a little walk into town, there is a tram stop only about 600 meters up the road.
