In the months leading up the the event, there's been much to do on here about Duvel and moules frites.

So, in the end - who had some?

You just put up that second photo to annoy me didn't you ? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The restaurants we went in were not serving mussels as there was not an R in the month - i.e. they were not in season. So I hope you enjoyed your frozen mussels - dreams of which kept me going for 75nm. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif A very nice fish stew was enjoyed. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tried the Duvel too sweet for me as a drinker of the black stuff. although it was rather painful to pay £4.50 for it in Flanagans after leaving the BBQ on Sat evening

Like Roger didnt manage and Mussels but had plenty of frites

No Dutch mussels (about the only ones you find the average seaside resto), until mid July (no R there either). But the weekend before we had "moules du bouchot" in Gravelines. They came from Oye Plage, just up the coast. Delicious they were too!

Duvel is a bit too strong for me, bit like posh special brew (ducks for cover /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ), can only handle one or two at a sitting. Personally I'm a Czech/ Polish/Russian pilzner type, although I'm partial to leffe (blond or brun).

I didn't go for the moules this time as they seemed over priced, I wasn't sure if the local ones were in season (?) and I'd had some very good ones at Bouloge last year and didn't want to spoil the memory.

Ended up eating some seriously overpriced 'beef stew' in Brugge though. Jo had the Moules on this occasion, they were very small and she complained of a 'tummy' afterwards.

Brugge is delightful BTW. (£4 each on the train & well worth a visit!)

Shame we missed the bbq on the Satruday night but we planned an early start back on the Sunday and I'm suseptible to awful hangovers! That's my 'reason why' anyway /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Great trip.

He's not around to add to the thread but Alan had moules and frites twice. Both times at one of the restaurants in the square with the bandstand. We both agreed that they were the best moules we'd had in a long time. Don't know if they were frozen or what but they were huge and very yummy.
