Hi,
I am interested in a Mystere Flyer 1972 vintage.
As it's a "renovation project" and so cheap my only concern is Osmosis.
I don't know how much a survey is, but they won't be cheap.
The boat is in Plymouth, I am in Aberdeen.

How is osmosis best detected.?

Boats, like cars reach a point when the cost of returning them to former glory is not justifiable. If you are buying cheap, then my suggestion is to keep it cheap from now on. Don't skimp where it matters, but don't spend on something that is just holding back the years. My 18' yacht cost me £1500 with a road trailer and nearly new outboard. It's cost me little in upkeep for two years and I as I keep it in freshwater and it's about 20 years old, I can't see the point in anti-fouling as a scrub with a deck brush removes the slime between pressure washes. If I develop blistering it may slow me down a bit (ha! that's a laugh) but it won't prompt me to try treating it.
As I don't go to sea I may be willing to accept what a salty-dog wouldn't feel right with, but I certainly don't sail a wreck!
