YouTube shows me lots of videos, but none shows the specific 6 pin connection of the DPDT switch , especially where the negative coming down within the 3 core mast cable is finally to go.

Is there a good video around or circuit diagram.

That mast is stored down, so everything is accessible.

If it's this model of masthead light (first I found by Google) then instructions are on Osculati's website.

https://www.osculati.com/en/11878-1...vigation-light-360-and-176-mast-head-3colours

The diagram on page 2 shows the white as negative. Most all of Osculati's products have a "specifications" / "extra files" section beneath the photo.

I guess if you wire the negative directly to the battery negative then the light will always be on (one way or the other), so you may need to put an on-off switch in line with the negative, depending on exactly what kind of DPDT switch you're using.

Thank you tross, but it leaves out very specific detail, e.g. where the negative from the mast wiring goes. But thanks
I would imagine it needs to go to the nearest boat negative or all the way to the battery negative is there is nothing near by. It's return, it goes to return.

It is normal for the negative to go to the negative bus bar or similar on your 12v distribution switch panel just like any other switched appliance. The bus bar is wired back to the battery negative. The 2 positives go to the 2 switches

probably but where does it go then? Anode is the only other answer I can think of but I don't think we are ready for that are we?
No. On many systems there is a common negative bus bar and the switch panel is connected to that, although it may go direct to the service battery terminal.. Nothing to do with anodes.

I think that from the OP's original post he has a 2 pole switch, hence 6 connections. Maybe adding to the confusion. If that is correct he can ignore the terminals on one side of the switch,(One row top to bottom) connect his supply +ve, to the centre terminal on the other side of the switch, one light to the top terminal and the other to the bottom terminal. His negative can then go to a convenient common point. Alternatively he can just link all the terminals on the switch side opposite the +ve and connect the -ve to these.

Without exception, Thank you All. Always be wary of the person asking the first question, that they could be an idiot ! ... and so indeed I am.

Because I am only putting together a test bench setup in my purbeck flagstone parlour floor, I eventually twigged that the battery neg. needs only to go somewhere to get an earth, and I have plenty of that here.

And by the way, tross' s first reply was correct.

But it's guys like you who provide an ample spread of input that let's the likes of me work it out.

Again, thanks .
