There was an aricle in a very old (68/69) PBO regarding the Kinswift. I nearly bought one about 8 years ago but ended up buying a sailing boat instead. You mentioned that you have two Cortina engines. These will give you a fair turn of speed 14/16 knots if wound up but fuel costs will be a bit heavy. You could think of converting to LPG but the other alternative is to talk to Watermota down in Devon as they made a Diesel version of the 1600 cc ford engine long before Ford brought out the 1600D Fiesta/Orion engine which was an Overhead Cam as opposed to the more conventional OHV Cortina. If you change to Diesel unless you go for a fairly powerful Mondeo or Peugeot engines your speed will drop down to below 10 knots.

Anyway, welcome to the world of Boat Owners and hope you have lots of fun.

thanks for the reply, i'm looking at ford 1800 diesels as the power output is(i'm told) comparable, plus the bolt patern is the same on the old crossflow as the more modern diesels.

the engines ar'nt the only problem as the boat needs other work, but she's apretty little thing and worth the trouble.

cheers.

Hi, I also became a Kingswift owner a month ago, mine has wooden topsides and glass hull. She has old Perkins 4107's. Already had lots of comments as to her wide beam and looks. I also have some paperwork showing layout etc.

record for the longest elapsed time?

Hi, posted this in 2001!.....

that's got to be some sort of record.

well still got her. family circumstances have interveined and her future is uncertain (the boat not the ex wife... although... no never mind!)

sounds like yours is the same as mine, mahogany topsides or ply?.. the later was a "home build" iv'e just bought a trailer, and hopefully this moth will see her hauled out for some work.

be nice to chat/have a look at yours... i could do with the motivation... i do know for a couple of others, and a fine boat they are too.

thanks for your reply.

Re: record for the longest elapsed time?

Hi, just seen your reply. My home No. 01825 890011 and Mobil No. 07854 886402 I too would like to contact others who have owned, or do own the Kingswift 26. I have not as yet started work on mine, but she is in the water near Maidstone, Kent. We brought her round by sea from the Hamble to the Medway, with a couple of stops, at Eastbourne and Ramsgate. This Sunday, I hope to make a start on the quarter decks, which have been painted. They need rubbing down, ready for repainting. Inside, I'm not happy with the galley, with no room to put down a saucepan, so am planning to rebuild this, as I did on my last boat, just sold. When I started boating three years ago, I was told you don't buy a boat to use, but to work on! I relise now what they ment. You are always wecome to phone, or come and see her if you wish.

regards,

Keith

hi stuart. welcome to the forum.

yes i stioll ahve her, although she's in an advanced state of resoration now. she should be ready to go back in sometime in the early new year.... although i'm officially ashore untill march.

i know of a couple of kingswifts, but i'm not sure if they are up for sale... it seems that once someones's got one, they are very reluctant to let it go.

you're right they are a special boat, there was one for sale in boats and outboards magazine last month... don't know if it sold.

your profile doesn't say where you're based, but you're more than welcome to have a look at mine if it helps. i can point out areas that need to be checked.... and believe me i've found them all!!

good luck in your hunt and if i can help drop me a PM.

regards, steve.

cheers Al.

glad you like the pics...

just ordered the last two windows for the front of the cabin, so with a little luck the fitting should be complete by next weekend, i need to do a bit more on the varnish front... but i'm pleased with the results so far.

the next big job is the engines, i have a pair of perkins prima turbo diesels now, so they will be nailed in at some point...

the rest should be finished by then.

i have a date to go back in... march 2007... but this time it WILL happen.

hope you get yours done before 2012... i don't want to be all on my own in weymouth for the olympics!

also there's a "bit of a do" coming up in poole nearer xmas... so if you're interested let me know... or check out the ad hoc forum.

also have to try and get hold of Jake K as he was keen on covering the resto on PBO.

hope you are getting some work done... i'm a little busy with the boat at the moment, but would love to come up and have a gander at hummingbird... she holds a special place in the hearts of people like me.

all the best, steve.
