Hello,
Just thought that I would advise. I dropped down the river last night to give the old girl a blast in open sea. Locked out and followed a small ship down channel about an hour before low water. I got under the bridge and heard a "European" chap on channel 68 calling the port control advising that he was aground in the area of the bridge. They could not see him on cctv and advised him to call the coastguard on channel 16. To be fair the water was only going to drop another 300 mm. Both myself and the small ship kept a look out and he being ahead of me spotted him. The yacht aground was one buoy close to number 9 buoy sorry I forgot to check. He was well aground but not leaning so in no great danger. He was however having a good panic and did not get an answer from the coastguard. I went over to him and he asked me to give him a pull off which gave me an excuse to check the grunt in my 400 hp ha ha. I pulled him off easily but there was a noticable bank (just inside the channel) looking inline with the green buoys so there is a shallow spot approaching the bridge to starboard. Just for information really. I advised the lock keeper when I returned.

Cheers, Colin.

Above Freston / Bridgewood & No 9 at LW there is NO water to the East

Hello,
Yes understand that to the East outside the channel there is NO water. This chap was in the channel (just) so to the West of a line between the greens. He drew 2.2m and was aground.
I did one quick pass whilst the old chap was changing his underpants and I saw 1.3m on the fishfinder its only barely a boat length into the dredged channel but still in the channel.
No great drama but a sailing boat tacking up the channel might just be doing there turn along this line.

All the best, Colin.
