I plan to keep Nyachilwa in the water over the winter and cant make up my mind between Wolverstone Marina and Suffolk Yacht Harbour at Levington. Does anyone have any good/bad/horror stories? Tips? Opinions? Rank prejudices....?

(Also posted in EC forum, hope that's ok)
Thank you
Graham

Try Foxs much better shelter + all services available + free club facilities ( unlike SYH )

I leave my boat afloat in Woolverstone, only out for 6 weeks normally, never had a problem, yes it does get a bit bouncy with North Westerlies but Suffolk Yacht Harbour also has its own problems with winds, its not as sheltered in there as you might think.

Best place would be Shotley I used berth in there and its cheaper than Woolverstone.

Staff at Woolverstone and Shotley much more professional in my experience and both manned 24 hours

My vote would also be for Shotley. Great place for day sails to Ipswich/Backwaters/Mistley. Just right for winter sailing with shorter days.

SYH out of those two but consider Foxes or Ipswich Haven. Woolverstone is very exposed to NW, and unsuitable for winter berthing in my experience. Could also try Shotley.

Agree with the Woolverstone bit, I was on the outside of F for 2 years and suffered lots of minor hull damage and one completely worn thro mooring line.

SYH has more on-site facilities i.e. a better chandlery, rigger, engineer, electrics/electronics, stainless fabrication, woodwork etc. Loos and shower blocks much improved in recent years. Very isolated, no public transport, miles from supermarkets etc ( although there is a small store of essentials in the chandlery). Nearest pub at Levington is a brisk 20 minutes walk ( unless you can wangle yourself into the HPYC lightship) Better shelter than Woolverstone.
Ipswich Haven is still pretty new, right in to the town. Station is about 15 min walk. Only problem is the long hack on the river before you get to sea.
