Righto,

clearly some Origo stoves have a bit of a problem with popping welds

If any of you have experience of them breaking It would be great to post them here

I will draw their attention to this thread

So

for starters

mine is almost unused - just for picnics ashore according to the well known forumite who sold it to me second hand

The weld has gone on the pot support on the right hand front - just where the round metal support meets the shiny flat section that runs along the front. As a result it will slip around a bit and come out of the right angle bracket that should hold it in place

- it works but is not particularly steady

Who else had had welds go and where?

it would be great to find out when yours was made

it might be a rogue batch

maybe another Rocna thread generator on our hands

I don't even know where they are made, how long they have been around or who owns the parent company

I have two. One on the boat and one for camping.

They are both branded "Electrolux" and "Origo 3000".

I have not had a problem with either.

I have noticed that some I have seen for sale do not have these brands but look exactly the same.

As for "The new Rocna" I don't think this one is going to run into 40-odd pages of responses i'm afraid Dylan...

...now if you can find someone with a weld that popped in Venice, it could go on forever! ;)

Mine broke in exactly the same place, both sides. I think it is put under extra stress from the pan holders.

£10 for a stainless welder to spot weld them back on.

Great cooker though.

Is it definitely an Origo???? I have been using one for 5 years and have never had a problem with pot supports or anything else. Are yours hinged so you can clean underneath them???

Have you discovered that watering meths down improves combustion and reduces carbon build up. My kettle is still as carbon free as the day it was bought.

Well, Dylan, as reported in the other thread, mine has popped 6 welds in about 4 years. We've burned a total of about 40L of meths through it, to give an estimate of use.

For the record both pan holders have come apart, both ends of the pan holder rail and both catches that prevent the top being lifted when the flame control is "on". Also a knob has gone brittle and disintegrated, though this may have been a result of using it ungimballed whilst heeling - which was our own fault, really.

My one is a double burner type, 6 seasons old & only problem is the RHS knob is difficult/impossible to open when the lid is down. However never really get to the point of ever needing both burners. Also use the Omina oven a lot on the stove.

Origo 3000, came with the boat 4 years ago, probably about 6 years old overall. It's gimbled, I've burned about 25l of meths on it, still looks like new. Only wear is the flame diffusers are beginning to flake a bit but you can get replacements. All welds seem sound, nothing broken or fallen off (yet).

Our 3000 came with the boat, but (from the survey report) replaced the gas cooker circa 2007, so probably not that old.

Only fault I've found was a spot weld holding one of the flat springs to the base had parted. Easily fixed with a pop rivet.
