Because with the prehistoric awfulness that is origo stoves, you need a long lighter to reach all the way down to the "wet" wick to light them...
 
There are lots of similar 'cheap' barbecue lighters. B&Q Tesco etc. They all work with the Origo adequately. The Origo itself incidentally, works better than most people seem to realise, though it is of course slow compared to pressurised gas.

what have Origo stoves got to do with it ?

Looks quite likely to ignite my gas too, good value either way ! :)

I thought it would be an improvement on the "match held in a pair of pliers" technique that was described on here recently by someone.
